Kunming is the capital of Yunnan province, located in in the southwest of China.It is a primarily agricultural province.Situated at 1,900 meters (6,233ft) above sea level and 25° north of the Equator ,it has a rather unique and pleasant climate .As the provincial capital, Kunming’s variety of people, languages, customs and food is a reflection of the variety found in Yunnan province itself. Roughly being the same size of California, Yunnan borders Vietnam, Laos and Myanmar. Because of its high altitude,Kunming’s weather is typically characterized by intense sunlight during the daytime and a slight chill at night. Kunming’s nickname in Chinese is ‘Spring City’.
2.Local Culture
One of the biggest draws for tourists coming to Kunming is the city’s ethnic diversity. Yunnan is home to over two dozen of China’s official 55 ethnic minorities., Hui, Tibetans, Bai, Dai, Yi, Naxi and others.It contributes to a cultural melting pot that differentiates Kunming from the majority of other major Chinese cities. Each of these ethnic groups brings a unique set of traditions including food, dress, art, music and mythology.

Famous local products include tea, tin ware. Pseudo-ginseng is a famous haemostatic native to Yunnan. Mango, banana and litchi are among the tropical and subtropical fruits produced in Yunnan.

As well as offering a wide variety of places to visit during the day, Kunming has a wondeful night life. Kundu night market,beside the Yunnan University, is most familiar to them. Kunming is the domestic transportation and communication center of Yunnan Province, There are also many direct flights to most cities.And it’s one of China's ports to Southeast Asia.
Kunming Wujiaba International airport located in southeastern Kunming is about 7.5 kilometersfrom the city center. Yunnan Province is vast; train travel requires much more time than air travel. However, if you are not in a hurry, train travel offers beautiful scenery along the way.

Kunming is situated at the top of a plateau in Yunnan Province. It enjoys a protected location with mountains surrounding the city on three sides, and a lake to the south. Elevation: 1900 meters (6200 feet) above sea level.The average temperature in Kunming is 14.5℃.The hottest month(July) is 19.7℃,the coldest month(January) is 7.5℃.It is almost sunny all the year.
7.Attractions
The Stone Forest
located 90 km southeast of Kunming,the stone forest is a fantastic natural phenomena. The various shapes of karst landscape was formed due to the millions years movement of Earth. Major Stone Forest, Minor Stone Forest and Naigu Stone Forest, all of which feature stones in various formations. Animals, plants, and even human figures. An old local saying says that 'If you have visited Kunming without seeing the Stone Forest, you have wasted your time.' Truly, the Stone Forest is one of the most important attractions of Yunnan.
The Dragon Gate on West Hill
The carvings on the cliff were made in 1751. Western Hills boasts an excellent environment with flourishing flowers and dense forest, providing tourists an wonderful environment to enjoy the marvelous scenery. No wonder that the place has gained a reputation as 'having the most pleasant environment in the world'.
